10 Best Things to Eat in Green County
Notice we didn’t say “10 Healthiest” Things to eat. Be careful, you might discover your new personal comfort food.
1. Cheese. Enough said.
2. Roesti Potatoes. Think hash browns. Not your grandma’s hash browns. Well they actually might be, if your grandma was a little old Swiss lady who could throw potatoes, onions, and Swiss cheese into a heavy greased skillet and make them sing together in harmony.
3. Cheddar Jalapeno Brat. Not too hot, just a pleasant jalapeno-induced buzz. Rackow Family Sausage presents this bad boy as a contender for the Brat Hall of Fame (we’re certain this hall must exist, somewhere in Wisconsin…)
4. Yogurt. Sugar River Dairy makes the best yogurt on the planet. Heck, maybe the best in the universe. The owners have their picture on the lid. You’ll like them so much you might not want to throw the container away.
5. Butter Toffee. Those purchasing tins of this best-seller from Colony Brands should be warned about the highly addictive nature of this candy.
6. Stinky Burger. A chunk of hand-pattied Angus beef topped with blue cheese, garlic, and crispy onion straws. Toffler’s Pub and Grill offers this up as a challenge to any breath mint.
7. Cheese Fondue. More fondue pots per square foot in Green County than anywhere else in the world (well, maybe other than Switzerland).
8. Kalberwurst. Lightly seasoned veal sausage, browned to perfection and served up with gravy at the New Glarus Hotel.
9. Sticky Toffee Pudding. A time-honored classic on the dessert menu at The Dining Room at 209 Main. Decadent sweetness tempered by toasted salted pecans.
